A. Eurbanlab case: De Kroeven, Roosendaal - Renovation of social housing

This Eurbanlab case study takes place in The Netherlands.

134 houses needed to be renovated based on passive housing technology. They were already 50 years old and the decision was to give them an added life-expectancy of 40-50 years. The planning phase took a lengthy 10 years due to occupants ever-increasing demands. The owner took major supervisory control of the renovations and employed secondary contractors to do the work. Co-ordination on site was given to the Van Lepren Group. Issues of airtightness, insultaiton and prevention of thermal bridges were essential and some miscommunication between conractors and uncertianty about responsibilities reusluted in renovation taking longer than expected, though still less than five days. For future renovation projects the three contractors founded a joint venture to improve planning and communication on such projects.

Each house cost 130,000 euros to renovate. Local government supported this project and improved liveability of the district by redeveloping green areas and streets, introducing lanes with trees.
