Dr Garry MCDONALD has over 16 years' experience consulting in environmental, social and economic analysis. During this time he has undertaken a wide range of project/policy evaluation and feasibility studies for various commercial and public sector clients. As a founding Director of Market Economics he has been responsible for delivery of between NZ$25-30 million of contracts. His research interests have focused on the integration of the environmental, social and economic dimensions of sustainability, particularly in the urban context. This includes applied interests in the development of Spatial Decision Support Systems, Ecological Economics, Input-Output Analysis, Computable General Equilibrium, Optimisation, Numerical Simulation, Agent Based and Systems Dynamics modelling. He also has an interest in the development of indicator frameworks including Footprinting, Genuine Progress Indicators, and Full Cost Accounting. He currently has leadership roles in the Sustainable Pathways 2 ($4.3 million) and Economics of Resilient Infrastructure ($2.8 million) New Zealand government funded research programmes. These programmes focus on the development of Spatially Explicit Dynamic Decision Support Systems for the Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch urban regions. This includes development of integrated land use change, economic, demographic, transport and environmental simulation models.
