outcome and expectations

 - A Note on the IJSD's Editorial Policy :

The emergence of sustainable development policies signals the need for economic, social and natural sciences to be brought together, responding to concerns worldwide for ecological, social, economic and political dimensions of sustainability. The IJSD thus envisages the use of analytical tools and concepts coming from many different disciplines and fields of experience. In particular, economic science needs to open out to the insights that may be offered from other fields such as the sciences of nature, technology assessment, the humanities and the life sciences.

The IJSD has the ambition to promote an innovative multi-stakeholder based research agenda at regional levels of international cooperation — such as Europe, the Mediterranean, the South Pacific, Latin America— and a wide reflection that can help decision makers and all citizens in the implementation of policies for sustainable development. Contributions should be scientifically rigorous but accessible to non-specialist readers. Today’s environmental problems pose new challenges to science and public policy, including the requirements to address ecosystem uncertainties and social change processes with regard to the long term. New notions of social responsibility and new perspectives in economics and science need to be explored. Science and technological development as forces for public good need to be open to renewed enquiry on ethical and epistemological planes.

The IJSD is inter-disciplinary in character and welcomes contributions that work effectively at the interfaces of different disciplinary, cultural and stakeholder perspectives.

key points

The IJSD Editorial Network:

A worldwide network of advisors and members of the IJSD Editorial Board ensures that the journal responds to policy and scientific preoccupations in all parts of the world. A particular emphasis is placed on the value and importance of stakeholder partnerships for effective communication on issues of sustainability. The international dimension is highlighted in order to overcome cultural and national barriers and to meet the challenges of accelerating technological innovation and changes in the global economy.

Profiles for the members of the IJSD Advisory Board and for the members of the Editorial Board (including Associate Editors and Regional Editors alongside the members at large) are found in the ePLANETe "PEOPLE" Gallery, and are accessible with cross-links found on the right hand side of the screen.

partners

The Association ePLANETe Blue and the Friends of the IJSD

The Association ePLANETe Blue is constituted in France (since 2015), as a non-profit non-government organisation in accordance with the relevant French law.*  Its purpose is “… to promote reciprocity relations at all levels and anywhere, between persons and organisations active in the domains of environmental education and knowledge partnerships for sustainability”.  It also has a specific mission: to assure the development, maintenance and good uses by its members and partners, of the multimedia platform "ePLANETe" for collaborative learning and deliberation support around sustainability themes.

The platform lives and develops through the cumulative purpose of its members.

  • A User Community of ePLANETe is characterised by a specific modality of use of the ePLANETe platform and a Steering Committee whose members animate and oversee the conditions of access, sharing and learning for their Community.
  • A Collaborative Project is characterised by a specific mission or collaborative project partnership external to the association itself, for which the ePLANETe platform serves as a means for realisation of project objectives.

The Friends of the IJSD (including but not limited to the members of the IJSD Editorial and Advisory Boards) are recognised as constituting a ‘Section’ of the Association ePLANETe Blue.  As ePLANETe platform users they become automatically associate members of the IJSD User Community, recognised by the General Assembly of the Association ePLANETe Blue.

The Steering Members for The Friends of the IJSD are, initially, the journal’s editors (Sylvie FAUCHEUX, Pascale DE ROSARIO and Martin O’CONNOR) and Albert MERINO SAUM (who was the IJSD managing editor for several years until 2015).  The composition of this steering group may evolve as a function of expressions of interest and capacity amongst the Friends of the IJSD.
