Representation Rack(KRR)

A KRR defines pertinent Indicators that will be served to a Deliberation Matrix(DM) or a Kerbabel for You(k4U). We use the acronym KRR, which stands for KerBabel Representation Rack. "Ker" or "KerBabel" is a common prefix of tools developed for ePLANETe.

The objective is to build a representation of indicators in a Rack, made by Knowledge carriers. It will create an Indicator Candidate list ready to feed a deliberation(through a DM type 3) or an assessment evaluation(through a K4U).

Requirements for new KRR creation

  • A KRR belongs to a Worksite. So the Worksite should exist first,
  • The parent Woksite of a KRR should have a crosslink with a Kik(object of the Indicator Gallery), so the Kik should exist first,
  • Each Indicator of the Kik must be crosslinked with a Method or Tool(object of the Method&Tools Gallery), so the Indicators-to-Methods&Tools crosslinks should exist first.

KRR profile creation

Each ePLANETe object has a profile. In a complex Gallery, fields of objects may be key features. So it is important to choose carefully some values in order to make the object work as expected.

Each knowledge carrier create indicators in a Kik crosslinked to the parent Worksite of the KRR. Indicators must also crosslinked to a Method or Tool. If this indicator-to-method-or-tool chain does not exist and the requirement explained above is not fulfilled, the KRR won't show up and the syetem claims with an error message. However it is not an issue if everything all components of the chain are not fully ready yet. The KRR can still be  created. The normall behaviour will start when all requirements are setup. As a good practice it is recommended to follow the requirement order even if there are no technical constraint to process in different order.

Any member of a A special user, named the "coordinator" of the Community has permissions to create the KRR and give other users to use add or change data of the KRR. Explanation of the important field of the KRR profile:

  • Community, this selection list put permission boundaries to the object, so only member of the Community selected here will be able to see and manage the KRR.
  • Worksite, the parent(container) object to which the KRR belongs to.
  • KRR goal*, defines for which purpose this KRR is created: a DM or a K4U evaluation.
  • Knowledge carrier, defines the category of Knowledge Carrier.
    • Participants, define ePLANETe user that can add, change or delete values of a specific category. The coordinator has permissions in all categories. All members of the community can see all data of all categories.
  • Ojects to Compare, defines what will be compared in the evaluation(scenarios, etc.).
    • Country, Land Use Type are only used for K4U evaluation(reserved for futur needs).
  • Issues, defines the criterias crossed with the objects to compare that help knowledge carriers to define which indicators are pertinent in this context.
    • Sub-Goals, are only used for K4U evaluation.

*If K4U is choosen, the Issue and Object to Compare axis work differently. The Issue axis works at a two level state and sub-goals are part of the assessment process. The Object to Compare axis has Country and Land Use Type extra fields that are used for futur needs.

-> Create a new KRR

Add indicators in the KRR

Open a KRR and select the "Representation Rack" tab or, choose the "Representation Rack" option of the main menu and click on the blue cube(the first one from left to right).

A grid should show up otherwise check that the requirements and profile is setup as explained above.

This grid has four dimensions:

  1. Category of Knowledge carriers(or Group of experts), displayed as radio button selector,
  2. Methods&Tools, displayed as top tabs,
  3. Objects to Compare, displayed in columns,
  4. Issues(plus sub-goals if it is a K4U's KRR), displayed in rows.

First, you must select the "To what group of experts do you belong" radio button. A message at the top of the screen also indicates to which group you are a participant. This give you the permission to change the datas in the grid.

Then you select the Method or Tool tab for which you want to add indicators in the grid. The "Indicator selector" displays all the indicators crosslinked with this method or tool. Select the pertinence value you want to assign to indicator that you want to add. Select as many indicators as you want(with the same pertinence value). Once this qualitative selection is done, click on the "+ Add" button of the cell targeted. The indicators are displayed in the cell with the pertinence value choosen. Repeat this process in all cell targeted.

Once an indicator is added in a cell, it is automatically saved in the database. There is no "save" button. Because several participants may work at a same time, the "refresh button" at the bottom of the screen refreshes the display of the entire KRR.

Add a comment

You may want to start a discussion in the group of expert concerning an indicator existing in a cell. Click on the "+" button beside the indicator. This creates a small forum icon indicating the discussion is created and that the participants of the knowledge carrier(or group of expert) may add comments. Click the icon to do so. For now a discussion can only be deleted by administrator.

Remove an indicator

Click on the capital "X" button beside the targeted indicator to remove. This will remove the indicator from the cell only, not from the Indicator Selector. The indicator remains available for further selection.

You may use also the "remove indicators" button that remove ALL selections and wipe out the grip. Use with care!

Read the KRR

Click the "Representation Rack Presentation" tab. All members of the Community to which belongs the KRR can see the KRR and its values, at any time.

Because a KRR is built with 4 axis it may be interesting to display the grid from different axis perspective. It may be also usefull to shrink the display to one value of the perspective choosen and to display only one indicator. So it can filter the KRR to get a relevant display usefull for the groups of knowledge carriers or to ease the analysis of the final result. Use the selectors at the top of the grid to do so:

  • Perspective(expert as default), select one of the 4 axis,
  • Perspective value(all as default), permits to restrain the display to one unique value of the perspective choosen above,
  • Tabs(Tools as default), which of the 3 remaining axis do you want to separate with tabs(tabs are used because of a lack of displaying the KRR in 3D),
  • Columns(Scenario, ie Knowledge Carrier, as default), defines which of the 2 remaining axis do you want to display in colums. Then the rows will use the latest axis(no need to select it).

Mouse hover over the column or row titles to display them fully in a tooltip box.

View the "Knots"

Click the "Representation Rack Knot View". A Knot represents the cross of the 4 axis of the KRR. At this cross there are indicators. So the Knot View help to report all the indicators entered in the KRR. In this view the first column list the indicator sorted alphabetically. Then the 4 axis may be displayed in the other columns of the table, in different orders. The sorting of the resulting table goes from left to right columns:

  • Column 1, defines what will be the next columns after the column Indicators, that will be displayed alphabetibally,
  • Column 1 narrowed down to, defines which axis value of the Column 1 that should be displayed only,
  • Column 2, defines which axis to display on the right of column 1,
  • Column 3, defines which axis to display on the right of column 2,
  • Restrict to indicator, shrinks the display of the table to only one indicator.
  • The "Toggle comments" button may add an extra column with column discussions.

Print

Every display can be printed in order to produce a CSV like table. It could be usefull to include a display or a selection in a word processing document. This is why the print output is minimal and is clean of any formatting special effects.

Navigate to dependies

If a DM or K4U childs exist there are displayed in a table located on the rightside column. Click on the available links.
