However, to benefit from low-carbon sources, energy systems will adopt new Smartgrid concept to distribute energy efficiently in decentralized networks of production and consumption, to be ‘self-healing’ or adaptive to changes and resilient to failures.

The conference SRMining (Social Responsibility in Mining) was held from 19 to 20 October 2011 in Santiago de Chile. Its objectives were to strengthen understanding of the concept of ‘social license’; to discuss the complexity of social issues faced by the mining industry at the local, regional, national and international context; to promote SR as an integral part of strategic planning and management, to discuss existing experience and practice, and share leading thinking; and to explore diverse and innovative ways to put research and policies into action
