Basé sur plus d'un an de recherche, cet ouvrage présente les enjeux éthiques et économiques du partage des savoirs liés à la biodiversité, du niveau local (peuples indigènes et locaux), au marché international des ingrédients alimentaires et cosmétiques. Il présente plusieurs études de cas contrastées en Amérique du Sud et en Afrique australe, ainsi qu'une évaluation des systèmes de certification éthique et environnementaux autour de ces enjeux émergents.

An international Symposium on Ecological Debt took place in Paris on November 7th. It gathered international experts on the subject, as well as speakers from different countries. Several members of EJOLT, an international project on Environmental Justice Organisations, Liabilities and Trade in which REEDS participates, were participating, including two keynote speakers : Leida Rijnhout (ANPED) and Esperanza Martinez (Accion Ecologica).

The conference SRMining (Social Responsibility in Mining) was held from 19 to 20 October 2011 in Santiago de Chile. Its objectives were to strengthen understanding of the concept of ‘social license’; to discuss the complexity of social issues faced by the mining industry at the local, regional, national and international context; to promote SR as an integral part of strategic planning and management, to discuss existing experience and practice, and share leading thinking; and to explore diverse and innovative ways to put research and policies into action

REEDS member Frances Harrison attended a conference on a topic which is not yet often discussed; that of intergenerational fairness. The conference, based in Budapest, Hungary in October 2011, was jointly hosted by the European Institute of Innovation & Technology and WHAT IF - sustainability as intergenerational fairness.
